I was wondering... What is your opinion about streamers who don't have a webcam? Is this something you consider very important? To the point of NOT watching the streamer if you can't see their face?
They say that the webcam helps the viewers connect with the streamer. Do you think it is possible to achieve the same without a cam?
I'm just asking... you know... for a friend... (Insert "rolling eyes" or "see no evil" emoji here )
One of the features I liked about Caffeine is that you can stop the camera part at any time if its not what you're looking for (and move it around). To me, it varries. It depends on the person or the game. Like if we're talking Wolfenstein, you bet your butt I expect a camera being the bottom middle of the screen with some form of bloodied face cause I like references to classics. Then you have some streamers that their voice IS the focal point of the stream as much as the gameplay. You had… See More
1 that didn't do cams, partially because of the guys hitting on them, partially because she was a mute, so even if she had the camera on, what would it be for? But ya, it just depends.

I have a team of 7 streamers on my team, and I can tell you the ones who use webcam on my team (James and Kat) get more view average per stream than the ones who don't. Most people don't watch the streams for the game, they watch the streams to build a connection with the streamer, the human social connection is far better with a webcam. There are some who use facerig and use an avatar and this works as a schtick, I know a streamer who only streams as a puppet for example with full persona.
But… See More
I think it also can come down to what you stream too, I know a couple that stream together and solve mystery games together and watching them on the same webcam is part of their streaming experience since they are often older and boring games.
If you only care about streaming the game and not also being an entertainer, then I think webcam is less important, but the game can matter. Example, when playing horror games people want to see reactions, some people come specifically to see Kat freak out during scary games and get scared, you can't capture those reactions without a webcam.

If I'm watching a stream of a game I like I don't need to see a face. I'm more interested in game play

IMHO, it can vary. There's plenty of streamers who don't use a cam at all, as it is all about narrating through what they're doing in game.
When you're interacting more with your chat (as in doing some games with your viewers or are actively talking with your chat), it's nice to see the face of the streamer because one can connect better.

I had a similar question for a while.. But Is microphone necessary. I have serious stammering issue and language translation delay makes it worse. I dont mind turning on webcam to show my ugly oily face if its necessary but voice, I just cant!!

It's the voice you listen to. The face is a distraction. Many bad/boring streamers get followers because they look good. I'd rather hear someone interesting and/or funny and genuine.

I think it's okay to have not a webcam on stream. I am not a streamer, but as an audience-- I prefer hearing only the voice, and make the face a mystery. Like sovietwomble's face, if you know him. Back in the day.
This is just my opinion as an audience.
