I generally buy games now based on recommendations from friends. We all know each others preferences enough to make solid suggestions to one another. I rarely hop by Youtube or gaming sites anymore.

I consider a lot of user feedback and reviews when I purchase a game.

Bang for buck basically, lengthy and good campaigns, or awesome multiplayer, or if all my friends are playing it and it has good reviews.

I, personally, am a sucker for a good RPG. That's usually enough. For other genre's though, I find anything along the line's of a Let's Play video on Youtube tends to help me make up my mind. That and a 75% sale on steam...

a combination of things effect whether Purchase a game.. Style of game... RPGs tend to get a huge look, then the universe.. and story.... Mass Effect Trilogy, the Witcher Trilogy. the universe of the game many times will nail it for me.... ala ME and Witcher also Bloodborn which has a great Ambiance.. also yes price will be a factor also depending on the game.. especially if i am on the fence.

The thing that motivates me the most to buy a game is either replay-ability or a good multiplayer . If I'm going to spend money on a game I want it to last as long as possible.
