So after a month of programming on the weekends into the wee hours of the morning and spending 200 AUD on a Raspberry Pi, I have come to the conclusion that the Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB is not powerful enough to perform as a live streaming mobile encoder even after being overclocked and optimizing the code to the best of my ability - maximum frame rate achieved was 720p 30 fps but dropped frames were creating a jarring video experience (720p -> 720p encode no rescaling). a laptop small enough and powerful enough to fulfill my needs. This pushes my live streaming project back an unknown length of time due to the costs associated with such a purchase. at least for the mean time the other components i have already purchased are usable in a desktop stream (camlink 4K and Sony FDR - X3000 Action Cam) - if you have any experience in live streaming from a laptop can you please inform me of the system specifications?
After your earlier mention of that I was interested in whether a Raspberry Pi with camera module could really work as a webcam replacement with a lot more flexibility, but looks like it has issues.
I'll end up with just a webcam I think at some point.
