I see so many people with 2 (or more) monitors on here. What do you need more than one monitor for? I have my last monitor (BenQ 1080p 144Hz and my wife uses it to connect to her work laptop when working from home) sitting next to my 4k one, but:
A) What would I need it connected to my PC for?
B) How would I connect and use it like a second monitor?

Using two monitors is quite good for multitasking (duh) - for instance you game on one monitor and watch a movie on another. Or you can have a photoshop on one and a reference images/videos/project files on the other. Or you can game and have a browser window open. It's useful, since you don't need to alt-tab or have small windows.
And to connect it you just need a cable and a free video output, there's not much to it. Then adjust some stuff in Windows and you're all set. And you don't really have… See More
to worry about them being mismatched or having different native resolutions - in some cases you can force a different resolution (even widescreen on 4 /5:4 monitors, you'll just have black bars top and bottom) or they will run at their native resolutions, only then you'd have steps between screens where the mouse will not transition between them.

I have two because I do a lot of work where I need to have multiple things open and it is nice to just not have to switch over all the time. I can see it all in a glance.

I use multiple monitors because I am a multi-tasker. I have destiny 2 on my gaming monitor and I have twitch and GTribe open on the second monitor. I am a moderator for several streamers on twitch so I need to keep an eye on multiple windows at once, and alt-tabbing is hard on my pc

I use two some of the time. Only when photo editing. I have the image I am working on open on one monitor, and my library of the folder with all images I am working open on the other. With Photoshop I will do the same, image filling screen on one and all my tools on the other one.

dont unless both are set to the same resolution (otherwise you get serious lag issues)
but in general having a second monitor lets you use more than one thing at a time, I used to have a browser up on one a game up on another and the main desktop off to the side (before I got a larger monitor and gave the old ones to the kids) but unless there all running the same resolution it does have an impact on performance especially if your having different things on them rather than acting as a single display… See More

Well, that depends. For my taste, I do similar like other people below. I have main monitor for gaming AOC and I use secondary monitor Philips for some stuff like guide or watching YouTube or having a chat ready there to answer anytime or something. However having 2 monitors greatly help me for my studying. It is easier to organize and make stuff while having 2 monitors. Basically, it changes my workflow. I have main connected using DisplayPort 1.4, secondary is connected via HDMI to DVI.

A), that depends on your needs. You can have chat window opened, you can run music player, ... etc.
Now as for B), connect it either with DVI or HDMI or DisplayPort. That's also up to you.

Content that takes up one screen fully while there is content on another which you may have a need to interact with during that.
Steaming would be a common example of that, with a game or other application worth watching on one, with the chat/other viewer interactions on the other.
With that case, I would also consider having the "chat" monitor in a portrait/vertical orientation.
In the case of triple, it may be for the wider aspect ratio such that the view can be stretched across all three.

I have 3... My main one is an HP Omen 32" 1440p 75mhz that I have connected via display port..
That's the gaming monitor.
My 2 side monitors are both Acer 24" 1080p 60mhz and are used for streaming, monitoring software, net and anything else while I'm gaming... One is display port and one is HDMI.... All 3 are on my 2080ti

I have more than one so that I have options. I like the ability to have a game up on one monitor and a movie or youtube, or GTribe on the others. It's all about diversity for me. Not to mention running a game on all 3 at once.

I used to have it, one DVI-D and one HDMI. It was clutter for me and it brought lagging issues. When I upgrade, however, I will need to build myself a proper station
Honestly I'd use one for social media and documentaries and the other one for gaming Xd
Right now I game on PS4 and have a laptop next to me. Keeping it casual
