Hi all!
With the reveal of the Logitech G G413 Gaming Keyboard, Logitech G gave us their most cheapest mechanical keyboard below the $100 USD price point. The G610 Orion keyboards with brown and red MX switches were their cheapest mechanical keyboards at $119.99 before the G413 knocked them off at only $89.99. Simple and affordable is what I best describe the G413.
Aesthetically, the G413 has a simpler minimalistic design with a very solid aircraft graded, brushed and anodized, aluminum-magnesium… See More
alloy top plate casing. Gone were the aggressive or classic look and what we have instead is a bare and basic appearance of a mechanical keyboard. The G413 comes in with two flavors namely the black Carbon and the Best Buy exclusive Silver version of this keyboard.
For an entry level mechanical keyboard at just $89.99, Logitech G have to give up some features without compromising their legendary build quality and performance. The G413 has no RGB and only has illuminated lighting. The Carbon has red LED lighting while the Silver has white only. The G413 also ditched the three-angle foot design, dedicated media and brightness buttons as well as the volume roller. The media, brightness and volume controls are now integrated as secondary functions from the often unused F keys. The G413 also does away with dedicated macros and uses programmable macros for your games and other tasks instead. This means you can still program the keys using the Logitech Gaming Software and even set the media, brightness and volume controls as primary functions.
At just $89.99, you still have the time-tested and superb Romer-G mechanical switches that is well-known for its 1.5mm short throw actuation which provides 25% faster register compared to standard mechanical switches. Besides the Romer-G switches, you get a nifty Game Mode option, 26-key rollover, anti-ghosting and the already mentioned programmable macros.
Wait! There's more! Logitech added a cable route pathway at the bottom of the keyboard and the package even includes extra gaming keycaps that are interchangeable with the ones in the keyboard as well as a keycap puller to get those keys out when you feel like it. What makes the G413 unique compared to the other Logitech G keyboards is the surprise addition of a USB 2.0 passthrough. The Romer-G switches are already a good staple but the bonus extra keycaps, keycap puller and a USB 2.0 passthrough are already well worth it at just $89.99. Most mechanical keyboards within this price range does not even have these so keep that in mind.
Too bad the Silver G413 is a Best Buy exclusive because between the two I find the Silver more elegant and more appealing. I would also want a Snow version of this keyboard. I mean a white one with blue LEDs that is the exact opposite to Carbon with red LEDs. It is nothing much but I do wish that Logitech G can also add a detachable wrist rest, USB 3.0 instead of 2.0, and separately sold, differently colored custom keycaps too. Maybe in the future.
For those who want a basic and affordable mechanical keyboard with great switches, prefer a more simple minimalistic design, not really into RGB lighting...then the G413 is for you. If you want to try and test out the Romer-G switches without breaking the bank then the G413 is perfect for you. As it stands out the G413 is among the best mechanical keyboards below the $100 price range today.
Have a nice day Logitech G fans!
