Usually what gets me to buy a game is Friends. Whether it be they recommend it, they have it and I love it when I try it out, or they have heard about it too. Mostly comes from the input of a friend.

Screw graphics quality, heavy marketing and commercialism. One thing that motivates me is the storyline and entertainment values. A game with soul. Older gamers know what I'm talking about.

Good atmosphere and immersive gameplay or a high skill ceiling that provides a sense of personal progression.

I've been a fan of the Mortal Kombat series since i was a kid (i had guts since then ), played almost them all, before switching to pc. Nowadays i would really like to buy the new episode on pc, however i don't have a job and at the moment i can't afford it.
Pillars of the eternity also inspires me, i've been playing rpg for years and it's interesting, everyone screams at it taking back the old rpg style, so i want to try it and i think i may buy it next month.

My biggest motivations for purchasing a game are whether it seems entertaining combined with positive feedback from actual gamers and not paid game reviewers. It's one of the main reasons I love this page so much!

What motivates me to buy a game?
The idea of being challenged by gameplay, given a variety of options in terms of approaching each challenge, knowing there will be many hours of gameplay for my buck - and ideally a large single player campaign. I also love stunning graphics, an even playing field (unlike many mobile games and some pc games where you can "buy your way to the top"), new ideas, magic, technology, stealth.....
