I look at a few things before I make a purchase. First I look at the maker of the game to see if I know them, if I don't know them I try to find out as much about them as I can. I also look for vids of the game being played also if the game has a beta I try to get into it to judge how the game plays myself.

To be honest it isn't about the reviews the game got, the hype it has recieved, how much budget it has, what big names are behind it etc... This is going to be a short answer but for me it is the feeling a game triggers when I see it's name with the cover. The excitement I get when watching videos about it, the thrill of anticipation I feel when adding it to my cart and the joy I feel when I start that game for the first time. By this you may tell that I'm not buying a lot of games. I personally… See More

get games which trigger that rare feeling and I never regreted a single one of them

Cheers

1. The Franchise. It is a huge factor. Once you fall for it, u ll fall for the rest of the series or even older ones.
2. Something different in the game that makes one to explore it.

Word of mouth, however if I am a fan of the series I will more than likely jump on board. Then there are Steam sales, Humble Bundle, Kinguin, Bundle Stars, etc. with great deals that make me take the risk on game that may or may not have received mediocre reviews across the board.

It depends on the amount of positive reviews of the particular game from various sources and reputation of the game developers (e.g. how much work they tend to put in to optimise their games on PC). Also, if the game seems to offer so much amount of quality content that it is value for money, I am ready to spend my money on that game without a shadow of doubt.

Most of the time it's about background of the game itself and it's makers. For example, if/when there comes next The Elder Scrolls single player game, i'm most likely going to pre-purchase it because of trust i have towards the game company and game series. If we talk about completely unknown and new game from new company, mostly there's going to affect presentation of the game and price. I am more careful with paying higher amounts when it comes to new games and companies.
