Currently, nostalgia is a big factor that determines what games I play since most of the games this generation leave me pretty unfulfilled. This then brings me to the next quality I look for, difficulty. The harder the game, the more satisfying moments to be had.

An interesting premise or gameplay concept; if it's a sequel of a series I like or by a developer or publisher whose previous games I liked.

I buy a game if it is good, simple as that   Story or good multiplayer are probably the biggest factors.

if it has an awesome multi player options or really long play time like an RPG like The witcher hint hint. I would buy. Most triple A titles are to short.

I can never define it. Usually i look for replayability. i really enjoy replaying all the games i have bought so far, even if i know the story and everything i have to do. Also lastly i am looking for honesty from the designer/company side. I don't appreciate lazily designed games with extremely good graphics. I want the developers to respect me and not look only at my wallet.

To be honest, what truly motivates me to buy a game, are the reviews and what I know about it. For example - Assassin's Creed, even although the launch of Unity wasn't exactly according to plan, I still bought it because I love the series.

Me and my brother buy games depending on how the look, the story, the gameplay, and the joy we get from playing them.
