My First week on the job with Transit Officers, we were all issued Winter Uniforms (Heavy Cut Proof shirts, Pants etc, High top Leather boots, Heavy Leather jackets, plus about 15kg gear - belts, vest, cuffs, batons, and other armaments) in Summer... and my first run was on an old unairconditioned Split level sardine rattler - so called as it had 2 levels, was made of steel with only a bit of dark blue paint. regular basis... about 4pm in the afternoon, the temp hit 46C outside and our train broke down in between Blacktown and Emu Plains - imagine sitting in full winter uniform, inside a packed train with temps hitting 55C inside. I called my Chief, and asked if we could roll up our sleeves at least, and was told that we had to be in Full Uniform at all times in public so "put your f'n jacket back on and suck it up nancy!" if I hadn't spent the previous 6 months training for that position I would have quit on the spot...
My brain and body just shuts off when I do construction or fabrication out in the backyard on hot days
