Back in 1980 while visiting Yosemite with my Aunt and Uncle, while still in the car, we came upon this other car on the side of the road, and a big black bear reaching into the passenger-side window, with the family all bunched up on the driver's side. They would honk the horn and the bear would withdraw a couple feet, and someone would crank the window closed about an inch or two and the bear would come back to reach inside again. This went on until they got the window all the way up and the bear… See More
lost interest and went back into the woods. We assumed they didn't just drive away because half the family was dog piled on the driver. I had a camera too, but didn't take a picture, dammit. Best entertainment we had that day! The whole family screaming when the bear would come back. lol Later that day, when we parked in the picnic area, there was a car with a door torn off, and a sign, posted next to it, warning this happens when food is left in the car. So that bear, earlier, could have just torn his way into the car if it wanted. But it was more curious than hungry, it seems. Bears usually aren't looking to eat people, though, but they can be territorial. Grizzly bears, though, different story.
