argh... a system came in today for minor upgrades. i thought it was gonna be quick and easy but i encountered a chicken and an egg situation instead.
It has a Bristol Ridge APU and a GIGABYTE A320 motherboard.
Gigabyte recommends to upgrade to F31 first before upgrading to newer versions above F40. Problem with that is, F31 doesn't support Bristol Ridge. F40 Does support Bristol Ridge back though.
Now, If I install the 5000G series APU first, it Won't work either because it is not yet supported on the… See More
F31.
I need to get an APU exclusive for BIOS updates. LOL
I remember encountering this problem. With new motherboard and CPU back in 2018/19. Sent them back, and that's when I got the Intel z490 and i5 10600K. It was a Asus motherboard, though. It's worth paying extra just for the flashback feature if you can. Solves accidentally bricking, too, as the flashback code isn't part of the BIOS and doesn't even require a CPU.

Similar situation, when updating my X370 board to support my Ryzen 3600 I needed a supported CPU.
Just at the time every 1000 and 2000 series CPU was way overpriced for me to just use as an upgrade stepping stone, so I ended up with a cheap Bristol Ridge APU, A8-9600.
May look into getting some cheap CPUs from those series just in case I have need in the future.
A 1400 or 1600 and a 2600.
