Hashtags, particularly if a trending discussion as shown on the left of the website will help (no idea about the app).
Seeking friends, as you are doing will help too as those doing the same could find you.
And they may share your status too, therefore exposing to their friends.
Also, try replying on those which will attract a lot of attention - such as from the Sponsors or Giveaways.
