I've been playing Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast now for over a year... a simple turn-based combat game where you take control… See More
of any one of the "Eddie" band mascots that have appeared in album / poster art or on tours along with some other fantasy characters inspired by the band's songs and battle 'evil' characters also inspired by the band's music.
And of course the soundtrack is pure Iron Maiden (although it's of a somewhat watered down flavour).
The game is completely free to play, so long as you are willing to be patient and accept not being able to beat other teams for example in the PVP section of the game until you have built up your roster with at least some specific characters to give you a fighting chance (although if you are impatient and want to all the things immediately you can choose to boost your account to include specific powerful characters, bonuses and resources). Still, it's a nice change that literally everything in-game can be done on a free account having never paid a penny, a great opportunity for fans of all income levels to be involved in something the band has created (or helped create and still contributes to). Oh, and if you need to play a specific game mode 1000 times in order to achieve a quest that gives you a new / rare Eddie you can set the game to autoplay instead of being tied to the phone screen for the entire week.
It's not all roses though, there are regular complaints on the forums around persistent bugs in the game that appear to be being overlooked by the developers in favour of new content that may or may not release without a hitch. That new content comes in the guise of event challenges and quests that drop every week in addition to the new game modes and addons that appear on a seemingly random schedule even before COVID-19 problems. To be fair though, there haven't been any more problems than usual even through the global pandemic and anything that impacts gameplay over a longer period will almost certainly be resolved along with a free item or bundle appearing in the in-game store. The only other regular complaint is not having quite enough time to complete all the event challenges in the time given, each one only usually lasts 3-7 days.
Overall my feelings on the game remain very positive and I would recommend it to friends and family as well as complete strangers, and since there's this competition you might as well look it over while you enter the free draw.
I still have a CD Copy of "Ed Hunter" laying around... the first Iron Maiden game released here in AU...
