Greetings GTribers!
The Wonders of Music.
I am now one of the believers of the wonders of music. You see my mom has Dementia and after my dad died February of this year, her condition worsened to the point that she may get Alzheimer's Disease in a few years time.
It is hard. Hard for me yet harder for my mom. I know that and remain to be strong for her. I always have to keep in mind to be patient and not get annoyed or irritated if she ask me a question - the same question, several times in an hour.… See More
All I can do is smile at her and answer her again and again and again.
She ask me a lot of her treasured memories that happened in the past because she could no longer recall it. At times, those precious memories are replaced by false memories. Something that I need to correct and often times may lead to her not believing me and arguing with me. When that happens every day, I kept quiet and just nod my head.
A miracle happened. I subscribed to Gysbert Van Uden's Oldies playlist a few days ago. Somehow playing the music made my mom remember her past correctly and can even reminisce with the old music of her time playing in the background. She can remember how she met my dad, their dance together and even can name all nine of us siblings correctly - in order. She remembers a lot.
Music can indeed stimulate the mind. It can bring back memories and the accompanying emotions.
Thank you Gysbert for the playlist, thank you GTribe for the Music Player and thank you Sir Angel Munoz for bringing Music Player on GTribe!
Game on!
That's awesome! I have heard of music helping in this way before. Really an amazing thing.
